Guelph man arrested for punching police car

Officers were sitting in the vehicle at the time.

A Guelph man was arrested on Halloween for allegedly punching the door of a police cruiser while officers were sitting in it.

Around 7:45 AM on Oct. 31, two officers were sitting in a cruiser outside the Guelph Police station when a 45-year-old man “approached and demanded to know the location of the nearest ATM.”

The officers told him and began closing the car window, but the man became “more escalated.”

Police say he “began punching the vehicle, causing a large dent in the door.”

As a result, they arrested the man—whom police did not name—and charged him with mischief under $5,000.

He is due in court on Dec. 16.
