Guelph teen out on bail crashes car while fleeing police

The driver was under house arrest at the time.

A Guelph teen is facing several charges after crashing his car Monday night while fleeing from police.

The 19-year-old man—whom police did not name—was reportedly out on bail when he collided with a hydro pole in a ditch after police tried pulling him over.

“Investigation revealed the driver is on a number of court-ordered bail conditions, including house arrest and an order not to associate with a woman who was also in the car at the time,” Guelph Police wrote in a report.

Police say they saw the driver cut off another car while entering a plaza. When they followed him and turned on their lights, he allegedly “accelerated back out of the plaza” and lost control.

There were three passengers in the vehicle, all of whom sustained minor injuries in the crash, police say.

The teen driver has been charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, two counts of breaching a release order, failing to stop after an accident, and stunt driving.

His licence was suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days. Police held him for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
