Pair charged after RV rams into police cruiser in Orillia

A man and a woman were arrested.

A man and woman are facing charges after an OPP officer watched a recreational vehicle (RV) ram into his parked cruiser.

Around 10 PM on Oct. 29, an OPP officer was directing traffic at an Orillia intersection as crews cleaned up an earlier vehicle collision when he saw an RV “travelling at a high rate of speed” toward his cruiser.

The RV collided with his cruiser and caused “significant damage” before it “proceeded towards the other vehicles and workers in the area,” police say.

The RV didn’t stop, so several OPP and Rama First Nations Police Service cruisers went after it.

They found it a short time later and arrested 38-year-old Amanda Hustler of Orillia and 41-year-old Christopher Draper of no fixed address.

Both were driven to a nearby hospital, where they were cleared with “minor injuries.”

Hustler has been charged with two counts of failure to comply with a release order, while Draper has been charged with:

–      Flight from peace officer – two counts.

–      Failure to stop after accident.

–      Mischief Over $5,000 – two counts.

–      Assault Peace Officer with a weapon – two counts.

–      Failure to comply with undertaking.

–      Failure to comply with release order.

Hustler and Draper appeared in court in Barrie on Oct. 29.
