Brampton man says jail sentence 'depressing' after hitting cop with stolen car

He is expected to enter deportation proceedings after serving sentence.

A Brampton man who’s been in jail for the last 17 months after hitting a cop with a stolen car says his prison conditions have been “very hard” and “depressing.”

“It was very hard to sleep on the floor,” 21-year-old Sahibjot Singh said while appearing in the North Bay courthouse recently, according to Orillia Matters.

“I got back pain ... I was getting very depressed.”

Singh previously pleaded guilty to impaired driving, flight from police, and assaulting a peace officer after a May 2024 incident that left Acting Sergeant Justin Brear pinned between cars during a police stop in North Bay.
