Guelph man accused of driving while high on meth

Police found a used glass pipe in his centre console.

A Guelph man was charged with impaired driving Thursday after police pulled him over and found crystal meth and several glass pipes in his car.

Guelph Police say the 41-year-old man acted “erratically” during the traffic stop. They also noticed a “used glass pipe” in his centre console.

Police searched his car and reportedly found suspected crystal methamphetamine and three more used pipes.

“An officer trained in drug recognition concluded the man’s ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by drugs,” said police.

The man, whom police did not name, refused to give a blood sample.

Police say they pulled him over after a cruiser’s automated reader detected that his license plate was connected to a suspended driver.

The man reportedly passed several cars that had pulled over for an oncoming ambulance before police stopped him in a parking lot.

He has been charged with impaired operation, refusing to comply with a demand, possessing a controlled substance, two counts of breaching a probation order and several Highway Traffic Act offences.

Police suspended his licence for 90 days and impounded the vehicle—which belonged to a friend—for seven days.

The man is due in court on December 2.
