Guelph porch pirate arrested twice in one day

He allegedly stole children’s gifts off someone's porch.

A Guelph man was arrested twice on Sunday after allegedly stealing items off the porch of a downtown home and from an apartment building several hours later.

The first alleged theft happened around 11 AM when the owner of a house on Nottingham Street was alerted by his security system that two packages had been stolen from his front porch.

The homeowner called 9-11 and told police that the packages contained gifts for his children.

Four hours later, police arrested a 26-year-old man while responding to a call for a suspicious person at a north-end business. Police say they recognized the man from the earlier theft.

He was charged with theft under $5,000 and released on bail to await his future court date.

However, the same man was arrested again that evening after allegedly entering a downtown apartment building and stealing more items.

After his second arrest, police held the man in custody to await his bail hearing.
