⌛️ Today’s read is 2.5 minutes long.

A Guelph man was arrested Monday after allegedly dumping hot coffee on a woman before stealing her toque.
The woman in her 40s called police around 1 PM on Dec. 15 and said that a man who lives in her apartment building (and with whom she’d already had multiple disputes) pushed her to the ground after passing her on the street.
He then allegedly poured hot coffee on her and, when she tried to stand up, “grabbed her from behind in a chokehold” and held her on the ground until she couldn’t breathe.
He then allegedly stole her toque and ran to a nearby business, where he claimed the woman had assaulted him.
Paramedics arrived on scene after the woman called police, but she said she’d “seek further medical treatment” on her own.
Police found and arrested the 56-year-old Guelph man shortly after. He is charged with assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm (strangulation), and theft under $5,000.
He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.

A Thunder Bay-area First Nations woman was arrested Monday after allegedly hijacking a school bus while under the influence of drugs.
Anishinabek police received a report in the early morning hours of Dec. 15 about a school bus that had been stolen, then later returned to its original location.
Police picked up a suspect shortly after: a 47-year-old woman from Fort William First Nation.
She “refused to follow commands and resisted arrest,” so police searched her backpack and found “multiple clear baggies of suspected powder and crack cocaine.”
Police say the woman was “groggy” and slurred her speech, so they took her to a hospital for a blood test, where she reportedly “committed an indecent act.”
She is facing a laundry list of charges, including:
Indecent Act – Public Place
Theft of Motor Vehicle
Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
Operation While Impaired – Drugs
Mischief Over $5000
Fail to Comply with Probation Order
She was held in custody to await her future court date.

Two Amazon employees were arrested this week after allegedly stealing over $2 million worth of goods from a company warehouse in Ajax, ON.
Amazon Loss Prevention contacted Durham police last month and said that 36-year-old Mehul Baldevbhai Patem from Newmarket and Ashishkumar Savani, 31, from Ajax had stolen “approximately $2 million in merchandise” over the past two years from the Amazon fulfillment centre they worked at in the city’s northeast end.
Police arrested the employees Monday before raiding a house in Ajax, where they seized $50,000 in cash and $250,000 worth of “high-end electronics,” including two dozen PlayStation 5 consoles.
Police also arrested three people they found inside the house at the time of the raid: Bansari Savani, Yash Dhameliya, Janviben Dhameliya—all Scarborough residents in their late 20s.
The two Amazon employees face charges of Fraud and Theft Over $5,000, while the others are charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime for the Purpose of Trafficking Over $5000.
They were all released on bail to await future court dates.
